Oh yes they are! Animals, that is. A lot of people have trouble with this concept, and not only elephant-lovers and vegetarians who fancy a fish supper.

There was the case of the judge, in an attempted prosecution of a man under the Cruelty to Animals act for throwing live prawns into a frying pan. His worship pronounced that:

".. a prawn is an insect, and therefore not an animal..."

Unfortunately, for his Learnedness, a prawn would still be an animal even if it was an insect.*

This does not fill one with confidence in the Legal Profession.
